How to use the LED sign
Type your message and tap “Full screen”, or the go key on the keyboard. The sign fills the screen and runs sideways, so turn your phone on its side. To exit, tap the screen.
Text color, background, speed and motion change the sign right away, in the preview above. “Still” and “Blink” keep the message in the middle when it fits on the screen; a longer one keeps scrolling. Under “Style”, “LED dots” looks like a real LED panel, and “Smooth” draws the letters whole.
Every message you show full screen goes into “Recent” with its colors, a tap away.
Tips for asking for a song at a concert
- Short and in capitals.
PLAY FREE BIRD!reads from afar; a whole sentence goes by too fast for anyone on stage. - Brightness all the way up. A browser cannot change the screen’s brightness, so turn it up before you hold the phone up.
- Red or amber on black stand out most in the dark. To really catch an eye, use “Blink”.
- Slow reads better. Someone far away needs time for each letter.
Send the sign to someone
“Share” sends a link with the message, the colors and the speed. On a computer, the same button copies the link. Whoever opens it sees the same sign, ready for full screen.
The sign goes in the address itself, after the #, as in #text=PLAY+FREE+BIRD!&color=ffb21e. You can even write a link by hand.
Questions
- Do I need to install an app?
- No. The sign opens in your phone's browser. For an icon on your home screen, use "Add to Home screen" in the browser's menu, and it opens like an app, without the browser's bars.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page has been opened with a connection on that device. When "Ready to use offline on this device" shows up, the page is kept in the browser and opens with no signal, which is common in a packed venue.
- Does the screen turn off while the sign is showing?
- No. In full screen the page asks the browser to keep the screen on. With battery saver on, some phones refuse, and the screen turns off as usual.
- Why doesn't the sign cover the whole screen on an iPhone?
- Safari on the iPhone does not let a page go full screen, so the sign covers the page and the browser's bars stay. Added to the home screen, the page opens without them.
- Is my message sent anywhere?
- No. The sign is drawn in your browser, and the page is not allowed to open any connection. Recent messages are kept in this browser only. In a shared link, the message goes after the
#, the part of an address the browser does not send to the server.
