My Best Games
Since February 2022 I keep a collection on chess.com called “My best games”. A game goes in when it has a brilliant move, a long line that I calculated to the end, or very few mistakes. I play on chess.com and on Lichess, and the good games from both end up there.
Today it has 104 games: 102 wins, one draw and one loss. 42 of them end with checkmate on the board. 84 are from 2022 and 2023. After that, work started taking my time and I played less.
Here are six of them. The first four have the names I gave them in the collection.
London vs KID
February 2022. I had Black against the London System and set up a King’s Indian. After 10.b3 e5 my opponent played 11.Be3, and 11…e4 attacked the bishop on d3 and the knight on f3 at the same time.
Three moves later my bishop on g7 took the rook on a1, from the other corner of the board. Bishops are snipers! White resigned on move 24, and I finished with 95% accuracy.
Queen’s gambit declined high accuracy
Also February 2022, on Lichess. I opened with the Queen’s Gambit, Black answered with the Albin Countergambit, the pieces came off one after the other and we repeated moves in a rook endgame for a draw. 93% accuracy for me, 94% for my opponent.
Brilliant Queen sacrifice
March 2022, Black in an English Opening. My queen was on c6, looking down the diagonal at the knight on f3, and I played 20…Qxf3.
After 21.exf3 Nxf3+ the knight checks the king and attacks the queen. After 22.Kh1 Nxd2 it attacks both rooks. When it was over I had an extra rook, and White resigned. I saw the whole line before giving up the queen, and I calculated it.
Perfect counter Stafford
Three days later, with White. The Stafford Gambit is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 Nc6, and I learned the refutation from Eric Rosen. In this game the black king came out on move 16 and never got back: it walked from e8 to b4 and was mated there.
Since then the collection got seven more wins against the Stafford, the last one in April 2026.
The king walk
June 2022, Black against the Grand Prix Attack. I was winning, then I blundered, and then I was getting mated, and I noticed. According to the engine my opponent had a forced mate twice and missed it both times. My king ran from g8 to e3, on the other side of the board, and I mated first: 45…Qh4#, with 13 seconds left on my clock.
The one I lost
February 2023, White against the Scandinavian. It came down to bishops of opposite colours, level according to the engine, with 92% accuracy on both sides. I had two seconds left on move 49, and my time ran out.
And a few more
Twice I gave my queen for a mate on the back rank in the French Defense, a few months apart and with the same last move: a rook to d8. And once I mated with king and queen with less than a second on my clock.
